Notice of Data Breach For Individuals in the United States

In compliance with State laws, the purpose of this notice is to share some important information regarding a recent cybersecurity incident involving personal information belonging to current or former students and teachers (“individuals”) of schools that use or used software called PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS).

As part of our commitment to transparency and the safety of our students, we want to inform you about a recent incident involving the PowerSchool student information system. We utilize PowerSchool as a database to store student and staff information. This communication is required under New York State Ed-Law 2-d and serves to outline the details of the incident and our ongoing response:

Scope of the Incident: On December 28, 2024 PowerSchool became aware of a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain information through one of their customer support portals, PowerSource. Through their investigation, PowerSchool determined that an unauthorized party gained access to PowerSchool customer data. This data included student, alumni and current and past staff information. PowerSchool discovered this incident on December 28, 2024. FCSD was notified on January 7, 2025.

Available Resources: PowerSchool has created a webpage and is offering credit/identity monitoring for impacted parties for the next two years. We recommend visiting this resource page and enrolling your student in the available credit/identity monitoring as a precaution.

Student safety and security—both in-person and online—remain our highest priority. We are committed to holding our partners to the highest security standards and are closely monitoring PowerSchool’s investigation as well as actively reviewing our own practices to ensure the continued protection of student information.
