COVID-19 Information
September 2, 2022:
Dear Fredonia Families,
We are looking forward to a fantastic start to the school year. All New York State school districts recently received guidance regarding our COVID-19 protocols and procedures. Much of the guidance has been greatly reduced from past protocols. Please review the following information prior to the start of school. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
COVID Guidance for schools as of September 2022 includes the following:
Preventative measures:
It is recognized that staying up to date with vaccinations, sanitizing hands, practicing respiratory etiquette, masking by choice, staying home when sick, being willing to test for COVID-19, maintaining a cleaning routine, increasing ventilation, and cooperating with current guidance can all be helpful in limiting the spread of any virus, including COVID-19.
Quarantine:
Quarantine is no longer required for individuals who are exposed to COVID-19.
Individuals with COVID symptoms:
Students and staff with symptoms of respiratory or gastrointestinal infections, such as cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea should be sent home or directed to stay home.
If at school, the individual should wear a well-fitted mask while arrangements are made to go home.
Testing is recommended for individuals with symptoms of COVID-19 as soon as possible after symptoms begin.
If a symptomatic individual will not or cannot present evidence of a negative test for COVID-19, then they will not be allowed to enter the school facility for a period of 5 days from the onset of symptoms.
No symptomatic individuals should be returning to school, even after 5 days, if they still have a fever or if their symptoms have not improved.
Individuals who test positive:
Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 should isolate for 5 days at home. For those
with symptoms Day 1 is the first full day after symptom onset. Day 0 is the day of symptom onset.
For those that had no symptoms, Day 0 is the day they were tested and not the day they received a positive test result and Day 1 is the first full day following the day they were tested.
If someone develops symptoms within the 10 days of testing the clock restarts at Day 0 on the day of symptom onset.
No COVID-19 positive individuals should be returning to school, even after 5 days, if they still have a fever or if their symptoms have not improved.
Masking:
Universal masking in school is not required at this time.
It is recommended, but not required, that an individual wear a mask on days 6-10 after a positive test.
Masking is recommended, not required, at all times in health care settings including school nurses’ offices.
Students are not required to wear masks on the school bus.
Physical distancing:
Physical or social distancing is no longer required in schools.
Testing:
At home COVID-19 tests will be available at school for individuals to self administer.
COVID-19 screening testing is no longer required to be offered or provided by schools, which includes no testing for those not vaccinated.
The Test-to-Stay program is no longer available.
Reporting:
The NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) is no longer requiring schools to report positive test results to the School Report Card via the Daily Survey.
Contact tracing:
Routine contact tracing is no longer recommended.
Remote learning:
Schools should be open for in-person teaching and learning, and students should be
educated in the school building. Remote instruction is not required.
