Fredonia Middle School is proud to offer a diverse variety of extracurricular groups and clubs for our students, focusing on enriching the school experience, increasing community outreach, and enhancing relationships with peers and adults.

Girls on the Run Heart & Sole | 5-8 | Girls on the Run Heart and Sole is a program for girls in Grades 5-8 that combines girl empowerment lessons and preparation for a 5k. Participants meet twice a week for 90 minutes to engage in lessons and activities related to such concepts as making SMART goals, stress management tips, embracing our agency, and how to ask and receive help. Girls also complete workouts at each practice. At the end of the 20 lesson program girls participate in a 5k run in Buffalo. If interested parents/guardians need to sign up at girlsontherun.org. The program costs $90 per girl (which includes the 5k registration fee) but financial aid is available. | Shannon Marsh |
Middle School Jazz Band | 6-8 | The Middle School Jazz Band is one of two student stage bands at FCSD. This 30-40 member group set in the traditional instrumentation of clarinets, flutes, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and a rhythm section made up of a piano, bass, guitar and percussion players. Students playing other instruments who would still like to join should contact Mr. Bennett for approval. He will do everything he can to accommodate all students! Jazz Band rehearses once a week on Wednesday afternoons from 2:30-3:00pm and gives at least three performances each year. | Andrew Bennett |
Guitar Club | Guitar club is a community of students that introduces individuals to the guitar through music that they want to play. It is designed to be a no pressure environment for students to learn basic skills from each other. In this club there are no experts or terrible musicians. Hillbilly Hotwire | 5-8 | Hillbilly Hotwire is our school newspaper club. Students come together to plan and write pieces about the latest happenings in our world and in our school. Students learn to draft, edit and revise their work. New this year, our newspaper features the artwork of 6 different students in grades 5 through 8 in a section known as the Artist Gallery. Students love to report on what is going on around the school in clubs and sports and they especially enjoy learning about our teachers in the Teacher Spotlight section of the paper. | Sarah Korzeniewski |
MS Ski Club | 5-8 | Middle School Ski Club is an activity for students in grades 5-8 to ski/snowboard at Peek n Peak resort in Clymer, NY starting in January. This eight week season provides students an opportunity to learn to ski/snowboard through optional lessons (additional fee), or just enjoy the outdoors once per week. School transportation is provided (additional fee) so parents are not required to provide rides to and from the resort on ski club night. Additional membership discounts (lift passes, season passes, etc.) through Peek’n Peak are provided by being associated with the Middle School Ski Club that are extended not only to students but families as well. Informational meetings begin to take place in the fall to determine logistics for the annual club with a starting date the first full week of school following winter recess in December. | Scott Herdzik |
Book Club | 5 & 6 | This will be a book club for students to explore multiple genres of books. Books will include traditional text and graphic novels. The group will meet one to two times per month. This is a book club for students to explore the joy of reading, try new books, and meet new friends. Students will be expected to complete one book per month. | Liz Gruber |
Book Club | 7 & 8 | The 7-8 book club meets once a week to discuss the current novel of choice. Students are involved in the book selection process, and we read a wide variety of genres and subject areas, including multicultural, historical, and relevant books. We also read novels-in-verse and graphic novels. Here are a few of the books we read this past school year. Student Council | 5-8 | A student centered group for students in grades 5-8. Monthly meetings allow students to voice opinions and help plan after school activities for their peers. Students are welcomed to join at any point in the school year. The goal of Student council is to provide interested students with a way to share input and make decisions about what activities they would like to see happen within the middle school. | |
Supply Depot | 5-8 | Supply Depot is a student run store that operates during 9th period. Students can sign up to work in the store on a quarterly basis. The Supply Depot provides a unique opportunity to practice social skills, organization and assist with management of store funds. Student employees help make decisions about what to sell in the store and keep track of inventory. Chamber Orchestra | Open to select 7th and 8th grade students as an “advanced” ensemble that meets Wednesday from 2:20-3 pm. Chamber Orchestra will perform at each Middle School Concert, and is also excited to welcome opportunities for community outreach. Gay, Straight Alliance (GSA) | 5-8 | GSA club welcomes all students. We offer a positive, safe, inclusive setting for everyone. At GSA meetings students participate in an opening check-in circle, complete a craft or play a game, and then allow social time. The club uses evidence-based practices of restorative circles and is meant to create community and build a safe, affirming and inclusive environment for club members. Circle questions include check-in questions meant to build connections and understanding between members, and questions intended to focus on kindness, positivity and hope. For example, we often use “celebration circles” for members to share something they are excited about that we can celebrate with them-these circles are accompanied by applause and cheers for each member who shares. | Kat Beyer |
5-8 | The FMS Service Learning Club meets twice a month, after school. Club events and activity participation is on a volunteer basis, whether in school, or out of school. The advisors and student club members strive to serve our school, local community, and other public causes. Student members and club advisors suggest activities the club gets involved in. Yearbook Club | 5-8 | Students in Yearbook club will learn how to use a camera to help with taking candids and group pictures. Students also help with the cover design, layout, creation and distribution of the yearbook. | Mackenzie Sheldon |

Talent Show | 5-8 | On the last day of school, students perform on stage for the entire student body. The whole show is produced, hosted, and planned by middle school students. The lighting design, sound, and stage crew for the show are also run by middle school students. The show participants must audition, and rehearsals begin the month prior to the performance. The show usually includes skits, dances, gymnastics, instrumental performances, comedy routines, and singing, but we have also seen pogo stick and roller-blade routines, art on demand, animations, and other creative acts. | Michelle Greenough |

Musical | 5-8 | Fredonia Middle School will be presenting the musical “Matilda JR” on November 17 & 18 and there are many ways for middle school students to be involved! Students interested in auditioning for the cast should listen for announcements early in the school year as auditions will be held in late September. Students interested in being part of one of our many crews (stage crew, costumes & props, lights, sound, hair & makeup) should listen for announcements for a crew meeting in early October. | Ben Wendell |
Art Club | 5-8 | Art Club allows students to explore additional art materials, ideas, and concepts in an after school club setting. Students in Art Club also have had the opportunity to create artwork through the Memory Project (creating inspirational artworks for children in poor countries) and this year we began a collaborative mural project allowing students to work together with SUNY Fredonia students to create a piece of FMS Art History. Fiddle Club | 5-6 | Students enrolled in 5-6 orchestra will have the opportunity to play a variety of different types of fiddle music, learn to improvise and use other fiddle techniques. This club will meet every Thursday after school from 2:20-3:00, and will perform in three concerts throughout the year. | Alexandra Goff |
