Middle School Ski Club 2009 -2010
***Please save this important information as a reference.
In order to participate in ski club this year, the following needs to be turned in to Mrs. Snyder by November 13: - grey Cockaigne form, check payable to Cockaigne
- $50 bus fare, check payable to FMS Ski Club
Ski Club Dates:
1) Skiing will start on the first skiable Tuesday in December that school is in session. Two of the sessions are passes for Tuesday nights on your own. Six bus trips plus 2 passes on your own equals a total of eight sessions.
2) The two additional passes (part of your ski package) may be used at any time.
3) Once our six sessions are complete, and students have used their two additional
ski passes, members may ski one time during the evening each week on an
evening that Cockaigne is open at no additional charge.
Cancellation:
4) All dates are based on weather. If ski dates are canceled, notice will be given the day before, when possible, during afternoon announcements.
* Sometimes cancelations occur on the same day due to changing weather
conditions. On these rare occasions, notice will be given by noon so students can make necessary arrangements.
5) There will be no ski club on dates that school is canceled due to weather.
6) Students that are absent, due to illness, on a ski club day may not attend ski
club. An absence due to an appointment, funeral, etc. will not prevent a student from attending ski club that night. In this event, a note should be brought from home and given directly to Mrs. Snyder.
Tuesday Routine:
7) Buses will pick up and drop off in front of the High School library . Please arrive
between 3:30 and 3:40 for departure. Buses leave promptly at 3:45.
Students arriving before 3:30 should wait in the car in the parking lot. Mrs. Snyder arrives at 3:30.
After School Supervision:
8) If students need to stay after school because of transportation issues, they should stay with one of their teachers and use this time to quietly complete homework and study.
Ski Storage For After School Students:
9) Students that must stay after school to attend ski club may leave their skis in
storage room #110 near the pool. This garage area may also be accessed from behind the building (Behind State Police Barracks). An orange “Ski Storage” sign will be posted for the first week of skiing in the hallway by the pool and on the outside door in the parking lot.
Students with ski equipment that stay after school should leave their skis in this area before school. The area will be locked during the day.
Bus Rules and Expense:
10) The cost of the bus will be $50 per skier for the 6 trips to and from Cockaigne. Cash or a check, made payable to FMS Ski Club, is due to Mrs. Snyder on November 13.
11) Any electronic devices are the students’ own responsibility.
There are to be no camera flashes on the bus.
12) FOOD - The ride to Cockaigne is less than 30 minutes. Please do not eat or drink on the buses.
13) Good behavior on the bus is imperative to the safety of everyone including the driver. Many times winter weather and country roads make difficult driving conditions; therefore, the bus ride must be quiet.
Dinner:
14) Food may be purchased at Cockaigne in the upper lodge, or a bag dinner may be brought from home and eaten downstairs. It is Cockaigne’s rule that food brought from home may not be eaten in the upstairs of the lodge.
15) The chaperones, ski advisor and Cockaigne workers will correct
inappropriate behavior. Some behaviors may include, but are not limited to:
~ Leaving a messy area in the lodge
~ THROWING FOOD
~ Impolite behavior, language and/or voice level.
~ Horseplay
* If a worker at Cockaigne corrects you or asks you to clean up, comply politely! Get out skiing! That is why you are there.
Return To Fredonia:
16) Both buses will leave Cockaigne at 8:45 and will return to the school at 9:15.
Parents: It is important that student rides are waiting by 9:15. The ski advisor waits until all students are picked up before leaving the property. It is a long day for a teacher to be in charge. Please be mindful of this. If your child is not picked up promptly, they may be asked to seek other transportation to and from Cockaigne. Likewise, students arriving after 3:40 to board the buses may be asked to find their own transportation to and from Cockaigne.
District Participation Agreement Contract and Permission Document:
17) Upon receiving payments, ski club members will be asked to fill out a district participation agreement. The document will be sent home to be read with and signed by an adult.
