The stars are shining at Wheelock Primary in Fredonia. Students and staff are working together to develop an understanding of what it means to be a person of character. Each month students are exposed to a central theme. At the end of the month students are nominated from each classroom who exemplified the theme of the month.

The students in the first photo have been awarded for their ability to display the character education trait of responsibility. During the month of September students at Wheelock learned how to become more responsible in school, in their homes and in the community. The Character Education Program at Wheelock was kicked off with a sing a-long concert by Tom Sieling. Students spent a few weeks, prior to the concert, learning songs that reinforced good character.

Students in the second photo have been awarded for their exemplary modeling of the character education theme for October, respect. Students learned how important it is to respect their neighbor as well as themselves. Slim Goodbody presented an engaging and energetic program to the students of Wheelock and Fredonia Elementary on how and why they should make healthy choices. It is amazing how responsible students are and what great choices they make when there is an expectation to do so.

Compassion was the character trait for the month of November. Students in the third photograph showed the community of Wheelock the art of caring. The entire school focused daily on ways to be a good friend. During the month of December students awarded one another with a certificate of thanks when they showed each other an act of kindness. The certificates are hanging in the hallway to remind us all how important it is to take the time to complete random acts of kindness.
