Learn and Serve America projects, also known as "service learning," integrate curricular learning standards and service to the community. The development of knowledge and skills of the curriculum is enhanced as students apply them to real life situations that help fill needs within the community, and allow them to develop a sense of civic and social responsibility. A relatively simple proposal form is all it takes to get started. Applicants are asked to provide a brief description of the project and to identify the community need that will be served and the curricular link to which it will be connected. Funds are available for materials and supplies, transportation, purchased services (for example speakers) and nearly everything else that is essential to the project.
