Choral/General Music String Band


Choral

Grade 3 Chorus: (Mrs. Laurie Tramuta) All third grade students participate in a grade level chorus. Due to large enrollment, the chorus is split into two sections. Each section receives one 40 minute rehearsal each week. During the week prior to a concert, extra rehearsals are scheduled to merge the two sections and make one large chorus. Participation is required for all third grade students.

Grade 4 Chorus: (Mrs. Laurie Tramuta) All fourth grade students participate in a grade level chorus. Due to large enrollment, the chorus is split into two sections. Participation is required for all fifth grade students.

Gr. 4/5 Select Chorus: (Mrs. Laurie Tramuta) The Gr. 4/5 Select Chorus is a select group with membership determined by audition. Participants are selected based on their pitch matching ability, intonation, responsibility and commitment. The group rehearses once a week for one 40 minute period. This chorus is an elective.

M.S. Mixed Chorus: (M
rs. April Hartung) Mixed Chorus is a 100 member group of mixed voices; Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. Membership includes all boys and a portion of the girls in grades 6-8. Mixed Chorus rehearses every Monday and Wednesday for one 40 minute period. This course is an elective.

M.S. Choraliers: (
Mrs. April Hartung) Choraliers is a 100 member group. Membership includes boys with unchanged voices and girls in grades 6-8 who are not in the Mixed Chorus. Choraliers rehearse every Tuesday and Thursday for one 40 minute period. This course is an elective.

H.S. Mixed Chorus: (
Mrs. April Hartung) Mixed Chorus is a 100 member group of mixed voices; Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. No audition is required and membership is open to all grade 9-12 high school students. Mixed Chorus rehearses every other day for a 78 minute block. This course is an elective worth one credit for each year of participation.

Chamber Choir: (Mrs. April Hartung) Chamber Choir is a 70 member group of mixed voices; Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. Membership is determined by audition and invitation only. High school students are selected based on their individual singing voice, previous experience, and attitude and effort during rehearsals. Chamber Choir rehearses every other day for a 78 minute block. This course is an elective worth one credit for each year of participation.

Madrigal Singers: (Mrs. April Hartung) Madrigal Singers is a select, 20 member group picked by audition only. Rehearsals are held once a week on Wednesday evenings. Madrigals is an extra-curricular activity and no credit is earned for participation.

Instrumental-String

Beginning Orchestra: (Mrs. Colleen Vanderzyden) The Beginning Orchestra is made up of fourth grade students who have just started an orchestra instrument. Each orchestra member receives a weekly class lesson. Although class lessons begin in September, Beginning Orchestra has no set rehearsal time and rehearses just a few weeks before the concert. Participation in orchestra is not required.

Elementary Orchestra:
(Mrs. Colleen Vanderzyden) The Elementary Orchestra is made up of fifth grade students in their second year playing an orchestra instrument. Each orchestra member receives a weekly class lesson. Although class lessons begin in September, Elementary Orchestra rehearsals begin in January, meeting once a week for one 40 minute period. This course is an elective.

Concert Orchestra: (Mrs. Colleen Vanderzyden) The Concert Orchestra is made up of all grade 6-8 students who play an orchestra instrument. It rehearses for one 40 minute period every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Each orchestra member also receives a weekly class lesson. This course is an elective.

String Orchestra: (Mrs. Colleen Vanderzyden) The String Orchestra is made up of all grade 9-12 high school students who play an orchestra instrument. It rehearses every other day for a split 80-minute block. Each orchestra member also receives a weekly class lesson. This course is an elective worth one credit for each year of participation.

Full Orchestra: (Mrs. Colleen Vanderzyden) Full Orchestra is made up of the String Orchestra members and selected wind and percussion students from the Symphonic Band/Wind Ensemble. Selected wind and percussion students join the String Orchestra every other Wednesday rehearsal. This is possible because the String Orchestra and Symphonic Band/WindEnsemble rehearse during the same period. No additional credit is given for participation in Full Orchestra. (this ensemble is not being offered this year)

Instrumental-Band

Elementary Band: (Mr. Kevin Way) The Elementary Band is currently made up of 80 fifth grade students who have just started a band instrument. Each band member receives a weekly class lesson. Although class lessons begin in September, Elementary Band rehearsals begin in January meeting once a week for one 40 minute period. Participation in band is not required.

Junior Band: (Mr. Kevin Way) The Junior Band is a 65 member band made up of grade 6-8 students who play a band instrument. It rehearses for one 40 minute period every Tuesday and Thursday, and alternates Friday rehearsals with the Concert Band. Each band member also receives a weekly class lesson. This course is an elective.

Concert Band: (Mr. Michael Mallory) The Concert Band is a 60 member band made up of the more advanced grade 6-8 students who play a band instrument. It rehearses for one 40 minute period every Monday and Wednesday, and alternates Friday rehearsals with the Junior Band. Each band member also receives a weekly class lesson. This course is an elective.

Symphonic Band: (Mr. Donald Keddie) The Symphonic Band, approximately 50 members, is open to all high school students who play a band instrument. It rehearses every other day for an 80-minute block. Each band member also receives a weekly class lesson. This course is an elective worth one credit for each year of participation.

Wind Ensemble: (Mr. Donald Keddie) The Wind Ensemble is a select, 40 member group picked by audition only. It rehearses every other day (opposite Symphonic Band) for an 80-minute block. Each band member also receives a weekly class lesson. This course is an elective worth one credit for each year of participation.

Jazz Band: (Mr. Michael Mallory) The Jazz Band is a traditional "Big Band" that introduces middle school students to simple rock and swing styles. Membership is open to all grade 7-8 students and advanced grade 6 students who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drums, piano, bass, and guitar. It rehearses every Wednesday evening from 6:30-7:30. This course is an elective.

Jazz Ensemble: (Mr. Michael Mallory) The Jazz Ensemble is a traditional "Big Band" that performs a variety of music in latin, funk, rock, ballad and swing styles. Membership is open to all high school students who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drums, piano, bass, and guitar. It rehearses every Wednesday evening from 7:30-9:00. This course is an elective and does not give credit for participation.
