STRATEGIES- AS YOU READ A SELECTION (BOOK OR HANDOUT)
DO ALL OF THESE - use Post-It notes or write in the margins
- Mark or highlight if you can, put notes in the margin or highlight important
information that you want to remember.
- Question Mark any question you have down- about the selection.
- Clarify Mark what you think the author is trying to say or what he means.
Mark these by the parts you need to make clear.
- Visualize What image do you see as you read? Sketch it out or chart it.
- Predict Guess what you think will happen next and jot it down.
- Reach and connect Jot down your comments or opinions on the selection.
After you read, go over your
notes and ask for any help that you might need to better help you
understand the selection.
