How to figure out hard words

  1. See if there is any part of the word that you can say.

  2. Say the part of the word you know.  Then say the rest of the word.

  3. Ask:  “Is the word I said a real word?  Does it make sense here?”

  4. Is the word like any word you know?

  5. Say the word again.  Is it a real word?  Does it make sense?

  6. If you can’t pronounce any part of the word or nothing sounds familiar, say “blank” for the word. Read to the end of the sentence.  Ask:  “What word would make sense here?”

ex. regulatory - (looks like regular)

pedestrian - (think where you have seen this sign, break it into parts)

warranty - (break into war, ran, ty then think where you have heard the word)

endorphins - (rhymes with dolphins)
