Helps for reading a book that you are having trouble with!!

  1. Talk aloud or discuss the book with yourself-like you might comment on a movie.
  2. Get a cheap version and write notes in the margin or use post-it notes for your comments.
  3. When you come to a sentence you don’t understand, move on.  It’s only one sentence.
  4. Pretend you like it!!  The more you dislike something, the harder it is to take it in.
  5. If you get to the end of a page and you really don’t remember what you read, REREAD it!  You probably were daydreaming but your eyes kept moving.
  6. Ask someone what a passage means if you really don’t understand it.
  7. Predict as you read.
  8. Try to visualize (like a  movie in your mind) what you read.
