ORGANIZATION AND TIME MANAGEMENT
*TO KEEP TRACK OF EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO DO
-
Use the assignment book
-
Put a small self-stick paper out on your mirror to remind you of things to do the next day.
*TO MAKE BETTER USE OF YOUR TIME
-
Take advantage of your learning style. If you learn best by listening and speaking, it helps to go over
our schedule out loud. If you learn best by visualizing, "take a picture” of your schedule. You'll be
able to see your calendar in your mind's eye. If you learn best by manipulating, it helps to cross out
items as you complete them.
* TO GET MORE DONE DURING YOUR STUDY TIME
-
Study during alert times—What time of day do you get most things done? --- Alert in the morning?
Study before school in the evening? Study at night
-
Always study in the same place
-
Clear your study area so your mind can't wander
-
Gather all of the materials you need before you study so you don't waste time looking for them
-
Start with your hardest subject. You will have more energy, so it will be easier and get done
faster
-
Take study breaks every hour or between subjects. These will improve your concentration.
-
Figure out what is keeping you from studying. (Bored? hungry? Tired? Feel like
talking?)
* SET UP YOUR WORK AREA
- Keep folders and supplies in your work area.
* ORGANIZE YOUR CLASS MATERIALS
- Get a separate notebook for each class.
- Buy two pocket folders for each class. Label one "Work done,” and the other one "Work due."
- Keep your work organized. Keep adding to your folder.
- After taking a unit or chapter test save all materials to study for midterms or finals. Move these
things to a box you have at home.
